I painted Catch the Light from a memory of an early morning at the beach when the sun was still low, casting brilliant shimmer across the ocean. What stayed with me was that perfect quality of light—the way it spread across the water in a luminous path, catching waves at just the right angle.
There were just a few early beachgoers out, and I watched this lone man playing with his dog against the backdrop of all that shimmering light. Something about that simple moment—the quiet walk, gentle movement, the dog's joy, the rhythmic pulse of water and shore—felt like witnessing something both ordinary and beautiful.
For me, this painting is about those early morning hours when light transforms the familiar into something luminous. There's a peacefulness in being among the first to greet the day, when the beach still feels like it belongs to you and the few others drawn to that soft morning glow—a moment of stillness, openness, and quiet connection before the world fully wakes.
