The Magic of Coastal Light: Introducing the Shimmer Series
Why shimmer?
For me, shimmer is more than just light on water — it’s memory. It’s that instant when a beach walk feels magical, when the air holds sparkle and joy, when the sea reflects a story that belongs to all of us. These moments stay with us long after we leave the shore, and they’re what I love bringing to canvas.
A snapshot of how I create shimmer paintings
Each painting begins with a warm underpainting — a soft salmon tone that gives the canvas a gentle glow. From there, I layer varying hues and tones to build the play of light. My brushwork shifts between bold, energetic marks to suggest sparkle and softer passages that capture calm and atmosphere.
At its heart, shimmer is really about painting light itself — capturing the way it transforms water into something alive yet serene . The result is a balance of texture and stillness — just like standing at the shore, where the eye dances between detail and expanse.
Why collectors love shimmer
Shimmer paintings often feel nostalgic — they remind us of family summers, evenings by the ocean, or the sparkling rhythm of waves. Collectors have told me this emotional connection is part of why shimmer resonates so deeply.
Explore the series
If coastal light speaks to you, I invite you to explore the Shimmer Series. Each painting begins with places I’ve explored along the coast, then unfolds through the lens of memory and imagination — from Florida’s Atlantic beaches to the harbors of New England — yet created to capture something timeless and universal: the feeling of shimmer, where light, memory, and atmosphere meet.
May these paintings carry the poetry of the coast into your life, whether on the wall or simply in the way you see the light.
